The three pieces I chose to watch were:
Earthlings
Food Inc.
James Nachtwey's searing photos of war
Earthlings:
1) This documentry is about the five harmful ways in which modern man uses animals for their benefit. First being as pets, second being as food, third being as clothes, fourth being for entertainment and fifth being used for scientific research.
2)The information is being shown through hidden footage of humans mistreating animals and is narrarated by Joaquin Phoenix while a soundtrack is provided by the recording artist Moby.
3)The perspective that is taken is of the injustice that is occuring every day towards animals and how we can change it.
4)It goes beyond convincing and if you can get through watching the whole film you will surely be affected and want to change.
5)I always knew of the treatment of animals and the injustice that occurs to harmless creatures everyday, however, this film truly put into perspective of how inhumane corporations and slaughterhouses can be, as long as they're making a profit.
6)This film effected me in a such a way that I have changed my whole perspective of animal treatment and will surely attempt to change this in society.
7)I did not find this entertaining because and this wasn't the directors intention when making the film. However, it has to be one of the most significant films ever created and is overwhelmingly informative and truthful.
8)If you believe in humanity and justice, then definitely.
9)One solution this film gives is to change your eating habits and know where your food actually is coming from. MAKE THE CONNECTION.
Food Inc.
1) Food Inc. speaks about the food corporations and lets it's viewers in on where their food is being produced and how a majority of our food has only become a mere impersonation of the original product because of excessive genetic modifications.
2)The information in the film is being presented by many interviews with the people controlling our food production and farming and footage of our "food" being produced.
3)It takes on the perspective of people wanting to show society of how food is being produced in today's world.
4)It is informative and very interesting, however I don't believe it would impact people as much as the film "Earthlings" does. However, it still does a very good job at getting it's point across and will make vegitarians consider becoming vegans and omnivores consider becoming vegitarians or vegans.
5)I learnt that even the major organic brands are owned by the massive corporations and all of the money still goes to these corporations which will just help them grow their crops and animals with chemicals and mistreatment.
6)It really made me consider buying local and organic foods whenever I have the option and to really be conscience of where my food products are coming from.
7)It was a very entertaining yet informative film and had it's humourous points and showed the ignorance of the majority of citizens to what they are feeding their bodies everyday.
8)If you would like to know exactly where your food is coming from and ways to change this, then yes.
9)To buy local and organic products.
James Nachtway's searing photos of war
1)This particular piece is a TED talk by James Nachtway's where he speaks about his career as a photo-journalist and hows he has made impact and would like to continue to do so.
2)This piece is being presented with a speech by James Nachtway and some of his most famous and impacting photos he has taken over the years.
3)This takes on the perspective of a photographer who has dedicated his time and life into his medium and trying to make a difference in the world.
4)I believe it is a very convincing piece and really puts what I want to do with my photography into perspective and motivates me to keep on working towards making a change in the world.
5)Before finding this piece, I had no knowledge of who James Nachtway was and now he has become one of my favorite photographers.
6)It really affected me because it helped me decide what I really want to create with my photography and become from photography.
7)It was very interesting to see all of his personal work and how he had a story for each image. Also just knowing all of the positions he put himself into to capture the truth and share it with other people is truly amazing.
8)In my opinion, yes, it is very worth while, but it really depends on what you are interested in and what you want to do with your time on earth.
9)A solution he gave to show the world what war truly is, was to keep on supporting him in his journies and to continue the subject of photojournalism. " I have been a witness, and these pictures are my testimony. The events I have recorded should not be forgotten and must not be repeated"- James Nachtwey
